Have you ever heard of a generalist? If not, it’s someone who has a broad range of skills and knowledge, many different hobbies and interests, and someone who oftens knows a little bit about everything. Sometimes, it might mean that the knowledge about a particular topic isn’t there YET, but that the willingness to research and learn about it is definitely there.

If you haven’t ever met a generalist, then allow me to introduce myself to you. I’m Sherri Wilson Johnson, hybrid author, literary agent, and virtual assistant to publishing professionals. I am both left-brained and right-brained, which means I’m creative but also analytical. I enjoy the creative process, but I also love spreadsheets and Quickbooks. Maybe I’m a little bit of unicorn on most days, but my clients don’t seem to mind!

I’ve been a part of every step of the writer’s journey, from writing the story to publishing it. I’ve been a part of the publisher’s journey, and also part of the agent’s journey. If you’re not sure which route you want to go (Indie or traditional), then I might be just the right person to talk to.

When I ventured into the Indie publishing world after receiving my rights back from my first publisher, I carried with me the love for telling inspiring stories, a VERY small budget, and enough know-how to be dangerous. With a D-I-Y mindset and much determination, I learned from some of the best in the business and began to develop skills beyond what I ever imagined possible.

There are countless steps and often many hiccups to self-publishing a book, and if you’re just starting out, you often don’t know where to begin. But you can do it! How do I know? Because I learned how and you can too.

Through much trial and error, I learned the art of cover design, formatting interior files for paperback and ebook and how to upload those files to Amazon’s publishing (KDP) and to IngramSpark. With those tools, I’ve helped beginning and seasoned authors alike see their books come to life. As an agent, I’ve done the same.
